Ali vs. Tyson: Tyson Profile 2

Wow... when it comes to ferocity and aggression, no one could light a candle to a young Mike Tyson. On this night, Tyson would become the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history. And they way he did it was nothing short of spectacular. Knocking down Trevor Berbick three times with one punch? We wouldn't believe it if we didn't see it ourselves, folks.

In the years following this historic match, Tyson would dominate the heavyweight division. Winning the belt from Berbick was only step one. He would soon go on to win the WBA heavyweight title from James Smith, and then win the IBF heavyweight title from Pinklon Thomas, becoming the first and only heavyweight boxer to individually unify the WBA, WBC, and IBF title belts. But that wasn't enough for the young champion.

Michael Spinks still had the Lineal Heavyweight Chapionship, a highly-sought-after title. When the first bell rang to signify the beginning of round 1, everyone in the audience and watching at home was clamoring in their seats, expecting to see a titanic clash of styles that was sure to be spectacular. 91 seconds later, however, Michael "Jinx" Spinks would be counted out in what remains as one of the most impressive knockouts in boxing history.

Tyson seemed unstoppable. His arms were powerful, well-balanced, and he could put combinations together with ease. His rapid head movement allowed him to get past several different offenses and in close where he could do the most damage. But on February 11, 1990, Tyson, the Baddest Man on the Planet, fell...

James. "Buster." Douglas. A 42-1 underdog, no one expected the fight to go past the first 10 seconds, let alone 10 rounds. And in the end, it was Tyson who was counted out. This was Tyson's first loss as a professional boxer, and unfortunately, things would only get worse.

In 1992, Tyson was convicted of raping beauty pageant competitor Desiree Washington, and was imprisoned for three years before being released on parole. We can only imagine and speculate what those three years were like for Tyson. But what we do know for sure is what happened when he came out.

"I will fight again." Four words that sent shivers up the spine of every heavyweight contender and champion actively fighting. It was time for Tyson to make his comeback.
